Terms of Use

The terms that govern use of the Provenance Revue website and archive services.

Last updated July 22, 2026

These terms govern your use of the Provenance Revue website. By using the site, you accept them.

The archive and its records

Archive records are published for research, collecting, and educational reference. We work carefully, but records may contain errors, provisional attributions, or incomplete information — publication history in this field is genuinely difficult, and our records say so when they are unverified. Records are corrected transparently: corrections preserve the original entry, the date, the reason, and the source.

Submissions and evaluations

Submitting a collection for evaluation creates no obligation on either side. An evaluation is an opinion, not an appraisal for insurance, tax, or legal purposes, and we make no guarantee of monetary value. Terms for any purchase, consignment, contribution, or transfer are documented separately and in writing before materials change hands.

Provenance Revue is a privately operated archive. Contributions of material are not represented as tax-deductible charitable donations. Where material is respectfully declined, we suggest alternatives when we can; declined submission information is deleted on the schedule described in the privacy policy.

Intellectual property

Original editorial content on this site — essays, publication histories, condition reports, catalog descriptions, and photography of archive materials created by us — belongs to Provenance Revue. You may quote brief excerpts with attribution for research, commentary, or news reporting. Historical materials shown on this site may remain under third-party copyright; their appearance here for preservation and documentation does not license further reproduction. See our copyright statement for our position and takedown process.

Age and content

Portions of the archive document adult material from the historical record. The site is intended for adults. Content notices appear where appropriate, and explicit historical imagery is not displayed on general-audience pages. See the content policy.

Accounts and conduct

Where site features permit submissions or correspondence, you agree not to submit unlawful content, misrepresent ownership of materials, or attempt to compromise the site’s security or other users’ privacy.

Liability

The site and its records are provided “as is.” To the fullest extent permitted by law, Provenance Revue disclaims warranties and limits its liability to the amount you paid for the service in question.
